August is upon us, well and truly. Here in Queensland the weather is still cold! I have had to keep my Winter things on hand to stop the shivers. How have you approached this Winter? We keep hearing about global warming and how naughty we are to breathe and make everything fall over, but I still shiver! Forgive me for being a sceptic, but I have been watching documentaries about these kinds of topics and I am totally NOT convinced that the Scientists have all the answers, or ever any of the answers. I always wonder about all the lava coming out of volcanoes, even today there will be rumblings somewhere.
Last night I ventured outside for a moment and caught the delightful aroma of burning wood. Not a bush fire, but someone burning a beautiful, real fire in a fireplace. I just thought aloud to H, "We are not allowed to sniff these beautiful, woody aromas any more, or even allowed to burn wood at all." Soon these kinds of things will be a wistful memory for us. In the meantime, London burns brightly, as youngesters and others rampage through this historical and astonishing city and other cities in England. I have visited many of those that were burning away last night. In 1666 the Great Fire of London happened. Apparently, Brutus of Troy established London and various other historical brutes came and took over in one way or another. So, all in all, London has been brutalized by too many to count over the years. Now, the latest thugs have rampaged through the city. One youngster said that he wanted to destroy the shops, who were taking everything from them, all their money! Obviously, the teenagers of London need a voice and this is what they are saying. Give us more money! How cute! Whatever happened to children obeying their parents, doing chores, learning lessons, helping the elderly and little children, being an example to the younger children.
Now, how did they communicate? By mobile phones, no doubt and social media pages. It all turned out to be a mass hysteria of young thugs arising. I think it is time for the officials to take action: give the young folk a platform for their voice; give them a platform for their bottled up energy; let them play more football or soccer; take away the TV, ipods, ipads and other electronic gadgets for one hour each day and let them play in a park in London [I know there are loads of them]. Give them some grass to lay down on [I mean green, growing grass that usually has a sign "Do Not Walk On Grass".] Let them walk on the grass, play on the grass, have a picnic on the grass [maybe for older teenagers]. Give them a life, that's what. Give them grass, balls [footballs], jobs [if they are old enough]; responsibilities.
Responsibilities are possibly the key to the solution here! I think it is one of the most important aspects of our society today. Let the children take responsibility for their bedrooms, their behaviour, their homework, their chores, their lives. If they have to be accountable, let them be accountable. I know that as a mother I allowed my children loads of freedoms and I think it was wrong. Sorry kids. I blew it. You should have had more responsibilities and you would be nicer, happier adults today. Now, where did all this hullaballoo begin, with a shooting. Who has apologized to the younger gen for this? Anybody there? It would be a good place to start. In the meantime, the solution seems like a bit odd... A shooting began all this burning, looting, troubles, deaths, injuries, and now, rubber bullets and water spraying seem to be the answers. Hmmm. It won't work. It will never work. Unless the 'wise adults' in government or those with a bit of nerve, stand up and speak, this will not be over. Maybe silent for a time but it will rise up again and again. So, watch this space... London bridge is... Why not pray for London? We all have rellies over there and we want them to be safe. We love those who came out with brooms to clean up. Good on ya. Now, why don't we get the Broom people to give some advice to the government? Just a few thoughts roaming around my head today. What do you think about this whole thing?
