Samantha Burridge is an Early Childhood teacher in Queensland and children’s e-book author. Her interests consist of handicrafts including quilling and crocheting, reading, writing and gardening. Samantha was born in Darwin, then moved to South east Queensland to begin her schooling in a small country town. She has been part of a literacy rich family environment where books have been treasured.

 

Successes in literacy

From a very young age Samantha has had an interest in books and reading as they provided new worlds with new adventures to be explored. Samantha has been writing stories since she was 8 years old and has had an overall love for books. She has been interested in children’s development for many years and ­­­­­­her lifelong dream was to be a teacher. Samantha completed her Teaching degree in Early Childhood in 2009 and is currently studying her Masters in Education to further her expertise.

 

Poetry comps

In 2002 Samantha entered her poetry in the Young Australian Poets competition and had the opportunity to have one of her poems published in their annual poetry book.

Family, friends and childhood toys were the inspiration for her first children’s book titled “Gumboot sees shapes in the sky”. These characters assisted Samantha’s imagination and provided yearlong companionship and fun when growing up.
